Patti Smith ~ Owner
Patti Smith has been a professional certified dance teacher for over fourteen (14) years. She holds certifications in the Fred Astaire and the DVIDA syllabi. Patti has had the pleasure of working in all aspects of her industry from teaching the beginning student to training teachers, to choreographing and training actors for television. She enjoys teaching beginners as well as advanced students and thoroughly enjoys competing with her students at various NDCA and UCWDC competitions. “My philosophy is that fun should always be the number one priority and everything else comes with time.” Patti also believes that everyone is dancing for a different reason, and it is her job to meet THEIR goals.
Kiersten L Taylor
Kiersten L. Taylor has been dancing since she was four (4) with a Ballet and Jazz background and transitioned into Ballroom in 2000. She has been a professional Ballroom, Latin, Swing, and Country instructor for over ten (10) years. She has also competed professionally as well as with her students in various NDCA and UCWDC competitions. Kiersten enjoys bringing her love of dance to students of all ages.
Joe Moncada, a native of El Paso TX, has been dancing since the age of 16. He started his career performing with the El Paso Association for the performing arts. He has danced and performed with the NM Ballet Company, Ballet Theatre of New Mexico, Modern Dance Moving Company, People in Santa Fe, Baila! Baila! and Ballet Folklorico Rio Grande. Joe has competed in the professional American Rythm division in Ballroom Dancing for 10 years, receiving awards including top teacher for numerous Pro-Am Competitions with Fred Astaire Dance World.
In 2007 Maryann Harvey teamed up with professional partner, Rowdy Dufrene, to compete in the Professional Master’s Showcase Division of the UCWDC. They were met with much success, placing 2nd in all dances at the UCWDC World Championships in January of 2010. Maryann also received international recognition as a teaching professional at the 2008 World Championships. Maryann has competed in the classic Masters division with two other professional partners. She and partner Todd Fulkerson were the 2004 UCWDC Classic Open Division I World Chapions.
Maryann graduated summa cun laude with a BFA in dance from the UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS in Philadelphia. She has been teaching dance since age 13 and hopes the all her energy and experience will enrich the Albuquerque dance community.
Chris Quintana came to dance with a background in music and martial arts. He saw these two interests combine into a passion for dance after studying with the Albuquerque Ballroom Company. His love of music keeps him dancing in his daily life, from working out with the LaBlast program to nights out on the town. Chris is Full Bronze certified in the DVIDA syllabus and has been teaching with CSP since 2012. He enjoys social and competitive dancing in all styles, and continues studying to keep dance fun and interesting for all his students.
Christy Purser is CSP Dance Studio’s Youth Coordinator. She enjoys introducing ballroom to a new generation of dancers. Christy is Associate Bronze Certified in the DIVIDA Syllabus. She loves seeing her students’ excitement when they learn new things and looks forward to getting to know each new student. Christy is also a certified LaBlast fitness instructor.
Carrie Lynn Rome
Carrie Lynn has been dancing her whole life. She has been a choreographer, instructor, and student for over 15 years. She has her passed the DIVIDA Junior Associates exam in April 2013. She trained with Louis Van Amstel and became certified in the LaBlast Program in June 2013. Carrie has formal training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco, Oriental Dance, African, Afro Cuban, and Hip Hop. Carrie became certified in Level I of the Suhaila Salimpour School of Belly Dance. Carrie enjoys teaching classes to new and established dancers, as well as, performing her duties as the Director of Public Relations at CSP
Pilar Alcazar, native of La Paz, Bolivia, was an educator for thirty (30) years; she obtained a Masters Degree in Education from the University of New Mexico. Since early ages she was passionate about dance, and took classes and performed Classical and Regional dances from Spain as well as Flamenco and Ballroom. Her passion for dance motivated her to become a Ballroom dance teacher.
Valerie Capone Altman
Valerie Capone Altman hails from a long line of entertainment professionals. Valerie’s passions for all things entertainment started when she was a little girl. For over twenty-five (25) years she has worn many hats in the entertainment industry. Valerie enjoys teaching dancing and contributing towards the development and enjoyment of her students’ personal dance needs.
Tony’s passion for dance started a few years ago while in college dancing with a traveling Mexican Folk dance group called Semillas de La Tierra. In 2003 Tony visited Cuba for a month long journey of studying Cuban Style Salsa called “Casino” by the Cubans. Salsa dancing continued to be a passion until having discovered Argentine Tango nine years ago, the first two years of which were devoted to a daily regime of study and practice. Tony began teaching three years later, then joined CSP in February 2014, where he continues to teach Argentine Tango.
Kevin Wieland was born and raised in Albuquerque. He has over 7 years of experience working in customer service. Whether you need to check in to class, order shoes, or simply ask a question about the studio, Kevin is your man.
